Homework Policy

Grades are not

weighted in any
way. I will add up
your total points
and divide it by
the total
possible points
for the class, and
that will be your

I will only take homework one day late. All late homework will be an automatic 50%
deduction. Just remember: points are much better than 0 points. No exceptions
will be made to this rule unless you have extenuating circumstances (in this case,
please see me).
I do not believe in busy work, which means you will not have homework every night
of the week; however, every homework assignment you do have in this class is
given to you because I feel that it is important and vital to your learning experience.
For this reason, homework will usually be graded for a significant amount of points.
Homework is due at the beginning of the period on the day it is due.
**You will be required to have a binder for this class. This is where you will
keep all of your materials for this class ONLY. I will collect these binders to
check notes, vocabulary, journals, etc.
Assessment Policy
You will be assessed in this class in multiple ways; however, not all of these
assessments mean a test. It is good for me to assess your learning so that I can see
where you are at as a learner, as well as what I, as the teacher, need to work on.
You will be required to set personal goals for yourself in this class that you will be
monitoring and keeping track of. It is my job to work with you and to make sure I am
teaching to your needs and being an effective educator, just as it is your duty to put
forth 100% effort and do whatever you need to do to achieve.

Student Role
Student effort plays a large role in this class. If you give your full effort to achieve in
this class, then you will do well. But if you do not put forth the effort it takes to do
well and achieve your goals, then you will see a negative result. I put a lot of effort
into creating lessons and assignments for you so that you get what you need to
learn out of this class, and so you become a more diverse and goal-oriented learner;
I expect as much effort from your side as I give on my side.
The same goes with respect. If you respect me, I will respect you. I do not expect
your respect simply because I am the teacher, but because I am a human being.
This also goes for your classmates. You are required to be respectful to all
classmates at all times. This includes not interrupting others when they are
speaking and not being disruptive during class time. We are all human and we all
are diverse and make mistakes; that is what makes us all so awesome and unique!
Bullying will not be tolerated and will be reprimanded with severe
consequences.
Participation
Participation and class discussion play a major role in this course. If you do not
participate and engage in group/class discussions, your grade will be impacted.
Absent Policy
If you are absent, you need to first go to the ABSENT binder I will have in the
classroom at all times. In this binder, you will find all handouts/worksheets/notes
that have been administered recently, as well as a description about what was done
during class on each school day. This information can also be found on my website:
www.MsJenAnderson.weebly.com
If you have to make up assessments, such as a quiz or a test, see me. Also see me if
you are still not 100% sure on what you missed. You have however many days you
missed to make up your work. Ex: if you were absent for 1 day, you have 1 day to
make up your missed work.
**NOTE: I will NOT hunt you down if you were absent to make sure you
make up your work. Make sure you are on top of your own absences and
responsibilities. You are SENIORS now, and about to enter the real world.
Get it togetheryou can do this!
Cheating/Plagiarism
Cheating will NOT be tolerated in my classroom. This includes plagiarism on any
assignment. If you are caught cheating, you and the person(s) you are cheating with
will receive an automatic ZERO. You will also receive an automatic referral, and
possibly further consequences depending on the situation.

A brief note to parents/guardians:

I am inviting you to participate in the classroom as much as you would like. I
encourage you to contact me at any time with any kind of concern, question, etc. I
have listed my email and phone number at the top of this syllabus. I am also very
open to having conferences before/after school.
I believe in letting you know what is going on in your childs classroom at all times
so that you are aware and can get involved in your childs learning. I have created a
website specifically for this class that will have a blog and a week-by-week calendar
of what is going on in English class. This calendar will include due dates of
assignments and assessments. I encourage you to utilize this site however much
you would like; it is a tool built specifically for the convenience of you and your
student.
The website address is: www.MsJenAnderson.Weebly.Com
Thank you, and I look forward to working with you and your child this school year.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Anderson
