Catalog Description:
Credit: 3 units
Prerequisites: EM220 or EM202 and credit or concurrent registration in E280.
Objectives:
The objectives of this course are to (1) present fundamental principles of fluid
mechanics clearly so that the student will be able to describe qualitatively flow
configurations and (2) help the student develop the ability to analyze flow problems in
a logical manner and to apply the appropriate methods to compute their solutions.
Text: Fluid Mechanics, Cengel and Cimbala, McGraw Hill, Inc., 3rd Ed.
References: Fluid Mechanics, Frank White, McGraw Hill, Inc., 6th Ed.
Engineering Fluid Mechanics, Crowe, Elgar and Roberson; Wiley, 8th Ed.
Grading Standards:
Homework will be assigned on a regular basis (approximately 8 homework
assignments) and count in borderline cases. One midterm examination will be given at the end
of Chapter 5. There will also be a two-hour final exam.
