ThiscourseisinFrench.
The History and Citizenship Education course required by the Quebec Education Program
for Cycle 2 is taught over a two yearperiod(Cycle2,Year1and2).Theoveralleducational
aims of this course are tohelpstudentsdeveloptheirunderstandingofthepresentinlightof
thepast.Specifically,theprogramcontributestostudentsgeneraleducationinthreeways:
It allows them to see that the present is essentially a product of the past and to
understand the present by approaching it from a historical perspective, which
primarilyinvolvestakingdurationandcomplexityintoaccount.

The three competencies targeted by the program are closely connected. They develop
together and in interaction on the basis of the same learning content Quebec Education
Plan, pg. 296. Each term, students willreceiveaglobalmarkwhichincorporatesevaluation

Student must successfully complete the cycle 2year 2 history course (grade 10) to obtain
theirhighschoolleavingdiploma.
