1.0 Overview
Task Force Team Marine was formed on 15 October 2014. Team Marines
membership included Richard Pitts, Neal Martin, Dan Chase, Shea Boynton,
Allan Kittle and John Gordon. Team Marines task was to locate, model and
analyze six separate wells using existing data and TechLog.
On 25 October, Team Marine located and was granted approval for six viable
wells in Eastern Utah. Primary means for well location was via the Utah Oil
and Gas Website: http://oilgas.ogm.utah.gov/index.htm. In addition, Team
Marine required all wells to be within the same geographic proximity and each
well was required to be a currently producing. These wells are named (API
number): Lamb #1-19-3-1 (4301350425), Lamb # 12-20-3-1 (4301350858), Lamb
#14-13-3-2 (4301350849), Yergensen #1-18-3-1 (4301350428), State #6-4-3-3-1w
(4301350691), and Conrad #6-17-3-1 (4301350857). The wells were evaluated as
a group and individually over five functional areas: Geology, Welllogs,
Multiwell Petrophysics, Drilling, Completion and Production.
The wells were assigned to individual Team Marine members in the order the
wells were located. Assignments were as follows: Shea Boynton Lamb #1-19-31, Dan Chase Lamb # 12-20-3-1, Travis Gordon Lamb #14-13-3-2, Neal Martin
Yergensen #1-18-3-1, Allan Kittle State #6-4-3-3-1w, and Richard Pitts Conrad
#6-17-3-1.
On 8 November, Team Marine created three subsections: well analysis, geology,
and supporting data. Wells were determined to be within the White River Area
of the Unita Basin (Figure 3).
On 24 November, Team Marine completed an in-progress review with Dr. Bratton.
All recommendations were recorded and incorporated.
2.0 Geology
The White River Area Stratigraphy is part of a progradational (figure 2)
shoreline series of core columns that were formed along the Western Interior
Seaway in the near-shore area (figure 1). These formations are dated to the
Cretaceous period. This seaway covered a large portion of the interior of
the North American continent. This body of water explains why Team Marines
selected wells demonstrated large amounts of limestone between the wells at
consistent depths. In addition, the progradational stacking provides quality
source/seal zones caused by layers of offshore muds with high bioorganic
material, along with coals found in the coastal plain.
Team Marines wells are located in the Myton Bench Field within the Uinta
Basin, located in North Eastern Utah (figures 4 and 5). The stratigraphic
column of the Uinta Basin shows formations and time period which they were
deposited, and the correlation stratigraphic column found to the right shows
production type and zone (figures 6 and 7). Team Marines wells show
production zones that match, for instance the Wasatch formation was a
production zone for all wells (table 1).
