3. The Hammurabi Code was instituted by King Hammurabi in Babylon and is one of the
oldest deciphered laws dealing with criminal acts. It was the first to tie criminal
acts and consequences together.
4. If any one break a hole into a house (break in to steal), he shall be put to death
before that hole and be buried. In other words, they would rather throw a guilty

6. We still study the Hammurabi Code today because it was the beginning of the set of
laws that governed everyday aspects of life. It was the establishment of justice to
all who lived in Babylon. It is these sets of laws that bring order to the governed
people. We can still base our newer type of government off of some of King
Hammurabis codes.
7. We see that the Hammurabi Code used consequences for every crime pertaining to
his codes. Today, we use somewhat of the same system by punishing the
wrongdoers, but we have more penalties that dont involve death.

More than 8 women may not live in the same house because that would constitute a

punish the same crime but today we would either fine them or put them in jail.

If this happens today, the criminal would be sent to jail and, depending on the age,
would lose their privileges to that daughter or son.

10. The different social classes were affected differently in a community. For example,
there are different punishments for a rich man in society compared to a poor
servant.
