In an age when technology and electronic

sources reign, Mr. Juan
Nelo Moa has managed to transform the
Pleasant Grove Public
Library into a relevant
and intrical part of the
Pleasant Grove community. Since taking over
as Branch Manager in
June of 2013, Moa has
established several successful programs aimed
at reinforcing education
and the arts for families
and people of all ages,
molding the library into
a triple threat: a central
arsenal of knowledge,
a learning center, and
a community cultural
center.

Computer Science classes teach skills that strengthen local community, national innovation, and opportunities for youth. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that computer science-related jobs will

A 2015 graduate of A+ Academy, and former Computer Science student of Mr. Michael Hawley,
recently sent Mr. Hawley this message:
Mr.Hawley you were right about these jobs. Got offered a computer designing job today. Starting pay
is $50 an hour...I think I found a new degree I might be interested in !
Offering Computer Science classes gives our students a competitive edge in todays global economy.

We are happy that you have chosen to trust us with your
child. We take this responsibility very seriously and commit to work very hard to make your childs educational
experience a successful one.
A+ Charter Schools have been providing quality educational opportunities through its schools since 2000. In
that time we have grown to be the largest charter school
network in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood. This year we
will provide those services to 2200 students and will have
almost that many on our waiting list.
This year we are focusing even more on preparing our
students your children for higher education and/or
high skill careers. We believe it is imperative that our students have the educational foundation to be able to choose
from a wide range of options once they graduate from
our schools. We begin that preparation early, with our
elementary students taking field trips to college campuses
and end with providing our high school students opportunities to take college level classes through our dual enrollment program with Eastfield College. To help prepare our
students for higher education/high skill careers, we offer a
wide variety of after school opportunities, from playing on
one of our athletic teams to singing in our award winning
choir. Many of our student organizations include requirements that students give back to their community. All of
these are designed to provide your child the best possible
preparation for being successful after graduating from
high school.

We cant be effective as a school unless we have parents

as partners. I encourage you to be an active part of your
childs education. You can participate in one of our Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTO), support your child
with your attendance at their after school events, volunteer
at one of the campuses, encourage good study habits at
home, and a myriad of things that will support our efforts.
Our commitment to you is to always respect your role as
parent, to provide a safe environment for your childs education, and to have a staff that is dedicated to your childs
success as a student.

There is a way to make (libraries) more modern and current. What I wanted to do,
especially for Pleasant Grove, because I understand the the community, I understand that we
have people who may need to enhance their literacy and computer skills, and that an average
family of four probably cannot go to a movie as a family, but what I wanted to do is bring the
entertainment and the learning centers to them. And thats what I do now, Moa said.

Moa added that he knows so many people in the community want to be involved in
one way or another, and it is important to him to make sure they dont feel like they cant be
involved due to a language barrier, lack of education, finances, or transportation issues.

I try to design things where there is no reason for people to say that they cannot go
and be involved. There is no excuse; its all here, its all free.

The Pleasant Grove Library has been a partner and a second home to many of A+
Charter Schools art and theater productions. This fall, the A+ Academy Drama Team will
premiere the first non-professional production of Just Like Us by Karen Zacarias at the Black
Box Theatre within the Pleasant Grove Library. The drama team has also been asked to run the
huge haunted house at the librarys annual Halloween Festival, which would make this the first
year a school has ever run the haunted house.

Im very hands on when it comes to arts and music.

As a local musician, I understand sometimes its not
about dollars, its about expression. So I try to get
everyone to express what they have. We could have
the next big musician or artist. You never know.

Dr. Lang and Mrs. Lang

Retirement Celebration
Friends and family came together August 28th to celebrate the retirement of two of our dearly dedicated and
loved administrators, Dr. Lang and Mrs. Lang.

The Kiwanis Club of Pleasant Grove

made Dr. Lang an Honorary Life
Member, as well as made a gift
to the Langs church in honor
of their daughter.

While Dr. Lang was aware of the retirement

reception, he was unaware that his family had
been invited, and were going to surprise him on
his final day at A+ Charter Schools.

Congratulations to Suzette Arbuckle!

Administrative Assistant of Inspired Vision Elementary, Suzette
Arbuckle, has been promoted to the Executive Administrative
Assistant to the Superintendent. On August 27th, IVE held a
mourning and congratulatory luncheon to mourn her leaving
but congratulate her on her promotion.
Please help us welcome Ms. Arbuckle to the Administrative Offices
