Dr. Changs 100
Day Plan

Every child should

have access to a high
quality school of their
choice close to home.

We innovate and
transform teaching
and learning to inspire
excellence.

Those closest to
students must be
empowered and be held
accountable for making
the most critical
decisions that lead to
student achievement.

Morning Icebreaker (9:30)

My School River
Think about the experiences you have had in schools throughout your life. Some of these
experiences have been meaningful and affirming. Others have been challenging. Draw
your school river, showing what schools you have been a part of in different ways
(student, teacher, parent, etc) and what these experiences were like. (5 min)
Share your river drawing with 1-2 people who are not on your grade level team. (5 min)
What can you learn from your experiences and the experiences of your colleagues with
schools? How does this connect to the experience you want for all kids? For the rest of
the King community? (5 min)

Icebreaker:
Making College and Career Ready Concrete
Excerpt from the movie The Great Debaters directed by Denzel Washington
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcllrqZgxwE

How do we know these students are ready for college and career?
What assumptions can we make about these students past
educational experiences?
What sort of tasks must have prepared these students?

Icebreaker:
Making College and Career Ready Concrete
How do we know these students are ready for college and career?

Public speaking skills

Social Skills

What assumptions can we make about these students past educational experiences?

These students were well aware of the expectations and the rules of a proper debate
Students value education and have developed a sense of self-worth
Students were educated with the idea that they must be the best representation of their race

What sort of tasks must have prepared these students?

Learning how language differs depending on the setting

There must have been a lot of practice
A lot of reading and research
They were taking different viewpoints (their opponents) into account
Challenging the students on beliefs
Their parents must have been involved in the shaping of these students
Expecting students to speak clearly and convey their ideas with clarity
Fostering student resilience in debates
Expecting students to back up their claims with facts

Exit Ticket Responses

Questions:

Logistics and the school protocols

arrival/dismissal, transitions, class schedules, etc.
What supports will be available throughout the school year as we implement our
techniques?
How will the PBIS be different this year? How will it affect our school community?
How will CCL work? By grade level or throughout the entire staff?
What will the intervention block look like this school year?
How will this all work play out as the school year starts. Will teachers enter this school year
will an open mind/growth mindset to implement these strategies? How will returning
students respond to this new school culture?
How is the intervention block going to implemented this year and what are the
assignments of each teacher.

Exit Ticket Responses

Questions:

When will I find the time to process all the Information?

Can the school have one goal to mirror the "Pit Stop"?
How will I include these techniques into my daily lessons?
A question that is circling in my head is how to take some or all of insights that I learned about
today to add to my knowledge and teaching experiences, to help me to be the best teacher that I
can be to better help our students, to have pride in themselves and to succeed in their
education.

Reflection on Day 1 and Overview of Day 2 (9:50-10:00)

take away from the day before. (3 minutes)
Popcorn share (5 minutes)

Sharing:
Double Planning (Tech)
Classroom culture and setting the tone
Embrace your river! Let your past experiences influence your teaching
Thinking about how I have influenced my students river? How can I influence future
students?
Growth Mindset
The importance of change and attitude
