Essay 2: Bibliography

Working title:
The impact of the Industrialization Theory (specialization and division of labor) on
the changing roles of academics and administrators in organizing and delivering
education in DE: a comparative study of two single mode ODL institutions (OUUK
and Unisa)
Peters (2010) discusses the unique organizational approach of single-mode
institutions, in particular the systems approach of single mode institutions in
organizing and delivering education. Because of the concept of division of labor,
many new and specialized jobs have developed and became necessary. This is sui
generis, really. A tutor at a traditional school and university works in a different way
than in distance education.
Moore & Kearsley (2012) refer to distance education as a system where all the
parts are healthy and the parts play their roles in harmony with each other
consisting of all of the processes necessary in order to teach and learn at a
distance, from management and design processes to learning, teaching, and
communication processes (p. 9).
Research question:
What impact (if any) did the Industrialization Theory (specialization and division of
labor) have on the changing roles of academics and administrators in organizing
and delivering education in DE?
