IntegumentarySystemsLabReport

Theskinhasmanydifferentfunctions.Thislabreportwillbefocusingmainlyonsweatgland

Thermoregulation

Homeostasis,whichistheabilitytomaintaininternalconditionswithinthenarrowlimitsthatare
optimalforthecontinuationofmetabolicprocesses,isresponsibleforbodytemperature,pH,
hydrationandotherbodylevels.However,inthisexperimentwefocusedonbodytemperature.
Regularbodytemperatureis37(98.7),andwhenthistemperatureisdisturbedinanypartof
thebody,homeostasisbegins.Byallowingordivertingthebloodsaccesstotheskin,thedermal
tissuescaneasilyinfluencebodytemperature.Smallarteriolesinthedermisconstrictwhenan
areaofskinisexposedtothecold.Thisallowslessthanthenormalamountofbloodflowtothat
areainordertoprotectthecorebodytemperature.Whenthecoldisremoved,bloodflowreturns
tonormalandthearteriolesdilate.Whentheskinisexposedtoheat,theoppositehappens.The
bloodvesselsdilate,allowheattodissipatefromtheskin,andtheskinappearsflushed,orred.
