Prior Knowledge, Context, and Motivation: Provide a list of challenging words and asking them
Opening to define them without the use of any tools. After students are unable to define the rest we will cover
the importance of using context clues to figure out definitions.

5.

Students will be provided a list of vocabulary words and short

sentences. After completing the first one together the students will
be asked to figure out the definition of each vocab word using
context clues.
After completing their definitions using context clues students will
check their accuracy by looking up the actual definitions.
After checking their work each student will be assigned a vocab
word. They will create a short paragraph with the vocab word in
it and they must provide context clues to help define the word.
They will upload their paragraphs to google classroom under a
class discussion board.
As homework each student will be assigned two other students to
review their paragraph and they will provide the definition on the
vocab word and the clues they used to help figure it out.
