During my undergraduate at Arizona State University my class load was heavily focused
on classes within the schools of Earth and Space Sciences and the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers
College. The school of Earth and Space Sciences has allowed me to not only have a vast
knowledge within my content area, but has given me the tools to be able to apply this knowledge
in a real-world setting. The Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College has helped me to become
comfortable teaching in the classroom and has given me a realistic view into schools by allowing
me to intern with a mentor teacher each semester. Arizona State University has gifted me with an
education over not only the general sciences, but has given me a vast array of pedagogical skills.
I decided to become a teacher after considering who in my life has meant the most to me.
During my schooling from elementary school all the way up and through my undergraduate, I
have been lucky enough to be influenced by amazing teachers. It was these incredible people
who forced me to look within myself and made me challenge my own ideas and beliefs that have
really helped shape me into the person I am today. I want to be that teacher for my own students.
Teachers have the ability to make students realize their full potential. I went into education
because I want students to not only be excited about learning, but because I want students to be
able to use what they are learning once they are in the real world.
In my role as a future educator I hope I get the chance to work with a large demographic
of children from all different backgrounds. As much as I believe I am able to teach my students, I
also believe that my students will be able to teach me, and each other. Every human being has a
story and has a struggle and I think it is important for students to realize that and be exposed to

that at a young age. If my classroom can be represented by a melting pot of students who are able
to learn from each other and to help each other, there is not telling in how far they will be able to
succeed once they are in society.
I believe in being fast, firm, and fair when it comes to managing student behavior. This
means that I am fast to act with any misbehavior that is occurring within my classroom. Firm and
fair means what applies to one student will apply to all. I will not flip flop with consequences
and the consequence must fit the offense. I hope that my student will be engaged in the material
and the lessons that I have been planning so that misbehaviors do not occur frequently. On the
first day of class my students will be given a syllabus that has all of the rules that apply to my
classroom. They will also be told the consequences that will occur and both the students and
their parents will sign the syllabus saying that they understand and they are going to be held to
that standard.
In my classroom I will plan on having tables or groups of desks. This arrangement allows
for cooperative learning within my classroom. I am a firm believer in the best teachers being the
students to each other. When students get to know each other they are more likely to respect each
other and create a positive environment throughout the classroom where everyone feels safe to
learn. We will be doing a lot of labs and group work that will require the students to work
together to accomplish tasks in a timely manner. Having groups will also allow for extra space in
the classroom. Having this extra space will allow for my students to get up and move around
without tripping over each other or having to maze throughout the classroom.
