REACTION OF ANAEROBIC RESPIRATION

Anaerobic respiration is a catabolic process that does not use free oxygen as the
recipient of hydrogen atoms (H) last, but the use of certain substances (such as ethanol, lactic
acid). In anaerobic conditions (no oxygen available), a cell would be able to change the
pyruvic acid into CO2 and ethyl alcohol as well as liberating energy (ATP). Or pyruvic acid
oxidation in muscle cells into CO2 and lactic acid and free energy (ATP). Shape of the latter
reaction process, commonly called fermentation. This process also involves enzymes present
in the cytoplasm of cells. In the anaerobic respiration, steps taken include:
1. Stages of glycolysis, in which one molecule of glucose (C6) will be broken down into
pyruvic acid,NADH, and 2 ATP.
2. Establishment of alcohol (fermentation alcohol), or the formation of lactic acid (lactic
acid fermentation).
3. The final electron acceptor instead of oxygen, but other compounds such as: alcohol,
lactid acid.
4. Energy (ATP) produced approximately 2 ATP.
The final reaction in anaerobic respiration is :
C6H12O6 2C2H5OH + 2CO2 + energy
