Lesson Plan 1- Introducing the Water Cycle

LESSON OUTCOME:
Aim: the aim of the first lesson in the unit is to establish what rain is and how
water is created. Students will be taught about the water cycle to create an
understanding and awareness of this precious resource. This initial lesson in the
unit will create context for the following two lessons.

PREPARATION:
As there will be a short video presentation shown during the lesson a multi media
device such as a television, smart board or laptop will be needed. The practical
component of this lesson will require lockable plastic bags, access to soil and
water.

Aim: the aim of the second lesson is to identify why living things need water to
grow and contextualize the important of water in every day lives. The lesson will
highlight what drought is and how Indigenous Australians source water in times
of drought.

PREPARATION:
As there will be a short video presentation shown during the lesson, a multi
media device such as a television, smart board or laptop will be needed.

Aim: the aim of the third lesson is to engage the students in water conservation
and help them identify ways in which they can save water. The final component
will involve a short summative assessment consisting of a ten question quiz
comprising content from entire unit.

PREPARATION:
A ten question quiz will be provided to students towards the end of the lesson.
This quiz will be prepared and printed by the teacher prior to the lesson
commencing.
