Foldable Instructions

1. Hold your paper landscape style.


2. Fold the bottom edge of your paper up (the flap should be
about 2-3 inches wide).
3. Glue or staple the flap to the rest of the paper (on the
edges).
4. Fold the paper in half hamburger style.
5. On the front of the foldable write Transcendentalism vs.
Romanticism leave space to draw a picture for each term.
6. Get out 2 different color pens or highlighters.
7. Open the foldable and write Transcendentalism on the left
tab in one color (or highlighted one color), leave room
underneath to write bullet points.
8. Write Romanticism on the right tab in another color (or
highlighted another color), leave room underneath to write
bullet points.
9. Read through Section 2 in your book (pages 405-407) paying
close attention to the main ideas about transcendentalism
and romanticism.

While you are reading, write down the main ideas you
find in a bulleted list under your terms that you wrote on
your tabs.

When you are finished with your main ideas, re-read
the section, but this time pay close attention to the key
terms or figures discussed.

For each key term or person that you find, write their
name on a notecard (dont forget to color-code for
transcendentalists and romantics).
13.
Underneath each name, write down any facts that text
discusses and at least one bullet about why they are
significant.
14.
When you are finished, get into your groups and
discuss what you wrote for each key term or person, focusing
on significance more than facts.
15.
You will use your foldables during the lesson closure to
rank your people/notecards.

16.

For homework, draw 2 pictures on your foldable cover, one


that represents transcendentalism and one that represents
romanticism.
