Constitution

Preamble: In order to promote leadership qualities, community involvement, maintain relations

between learning center sites, and create a positive culture of fun and acceptance on our campus,
the students of Dehesa Charter School, Riverside Learning Center do ordain and establish this
constitution.
Motto: Serve with Pride, Lead with Confidence, Inspire to impact lives

Article I: Purpose
The representative body of the students of Dehesa Charter School, Riverside Learning Center
shall be called Student Council hereafter.
Section One: Purpose
To promote school activities
Plan campus wide events
Complete a community service project
Improve school morale
Create a strong community environment on campus
Encourage student involvement and enthusiasm in all school activities
Article Two: Membership
Section One: Council Makeup
Council Board of Officers shall be made up of the following: President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer, Publicist
Officers should be nominated by members of the Student Council
During the officer nominations and voting, there should a quorum of delegates.
In the case of a tie, the Student Council Advisor will make the tie decision
Each position shall be for the length of one year
Section Two: Duties of the Officers:
President
Enforce the Constitution
Can be impeached by a majority vote of the Student Council
Prepare the agenda for and preside over all meetings
Be a representative at school related community functions
Be a non-voting member at Student Council meetings except in the event of breaking a
tie vote
Keeps members informed and serve as a role model
Vice President
Preside over all meetings and activities in the absence of the President
Maintain the council calendar of events

Strive to involve members in discussions

Works closely with the President and serve as a role model
Be a representative at all school related community functions
Oversee the recruitment of new students to participate in Student Council
Serve as overseer of committees

Secretary
Keep accurate minutes of all Council meetings and submit monthly to Advisor for
publication
Be responsible for all correspondence from Student Council and the faculty
Report progress made in any Council goals and or events
Serve as a role model
Take attendance at meetings and events
Treasurer
Oversee Council expenses and revenues
Make financial reports and accounts for Council activities
Maintain the Council cashbox
Maintain Council assets and equipment
Preside over the budget committee
Publicist
Maintain Student Council Social Media Account(s)
Coordinate the maintenance of the Student Council website
Develop and maintain a Student Council Directory
Serve as a role model
Serve as a liaison between the Student Council and the Regional Manager
Keep the student body informed of events
Representative
Support Officers in their duties
Serve as a role model
Support Publicity
Attend all functions
Section Two: Qualifications:
Must be in 9, 10, 11, or 12th grade
All members of the Student Council shall have voting rights
Section Three: Removal
Students can be removed from Student Council at the discretion of Student Council
Advisor or Regional Manager
There is no appeals process
Article III: Standing Committees

Fundraising: Coordinate fundraising events for Student Council

Freshman/New Student: Create a welcoming atmosphere on campus
Senior: Create memorable senior events and coordinate senior gift
Monday Funday: Coordinate and organize Monday Funday in spring semester

Article IV: Meetings and Events

Regular Meetings will be held weekly, scheduled by the Regional Manager
Advisors are appointed by the Regional Manager and will serve a term of one year
Student Council shall hold one school-wide event per month
Article V: Elections
Officers are elected by a quorum of the Student Council body prior to October 1.
Elections are held by private ballot
Officer candidates are nominated by Student Council members
Article VI: Mid-Semester Graduations
In the event an officer graduates mid-semester or withdraws from Student Council, a
replacement shall be nominated by the member body and an election will be held for
replacement as per Article V prior to the student leaving.
Article VII: Amendments
This constitution may be amended at any time by a 2/3 majority vote of the Council.
