Storage temperature: impact on cement usage qualities

Source :
CHECK LIST OF RECOMMENDATIONS
To overcome this potential negative impact of high storage temperature, the following rule should be applied:
Measure temperature at silo inlet (continuous measurement recommended, or a minimum of twice a week).
Limit silo inlet temperature to a max of 70 C.
This can be achieved by one or more of the following:
- use a cement cooling system,
- use fresh air generated by separator,
- air ventilation in mill,
- water spray injection in the mill,
- cool clinker prior to grinding.
Note:
1. Problems can be enhanced by long storage periods in silos (or in bags at high temperature)
2. Cement containing a high level of soluble alkalies is particularly sensitive to a high storage temperature.
3. Some concrete specifications limit the temperature of cement.

SIDE IMPACTS :
Decreasing the cement temperature by 10 C results in a decrease of plastic concrete temperature by approximately 1 C. It can be
beneficial in summer, but it will increase setting times in winter.
