ApproachConsiderations
Thediagnosisofclusterheadache(CH)isbasedonhistoricalandphysicalfindings.
Ahistoryofattacksthatoccurwiththecharacteristicperiodicityandrhythmicityis
thekeytothediagnosis.Laboratorystudiesarenotofparticularvalueinthisregard.
Imagingstudies,thoughnotdiagnostic,areusefulforexcludingotherpotential
causesofheadacheinselectedpatients.Neuroimagingwithassessmentofthe
intracranialandcervicalvasculatureandthesellarandparanasalregionis
recommendedinallpatientswithatypicalpresentationsoftrigeminalautonomic
headaches.
