Unit 3 Essay 1
As adulthood approaches, I have considered careers to pursue and prepare for when I
pursue a higher education after high school. Careers that interest me include biomedical and
chemical engineeringsuch careers which skills in which higher levels of math and science are
required.
In order to become a biomedical engineer, high school courses such as chemistry,
biology, and physics should be taken alongside math courses such as calculus. Also, classes
taken in drafting, mechanical drawing, and computer programming benefit education in college,
where courses will focus on engineering and biological sciences. College programs may also
include laboratory-based courses or co-ops or internships that are often with hospitals, which
help give hands-on experience. A minimum of a bachelors degree is required to enter a career in
biomedical engineering. Schools that offer programs for biomedical engineering include UC
Berkeley and UC Davis.
In order to become a chemical engineer, high school courses such as chemistry, biology,
and physics should be taken alongside math courses such as algebra, trigonometry, and calculus.
In college, some may offer cooperative programs to give students experience in the field as they

learn. A minimum of a bachelors degree is required to begin a career in chemical engineering,
and schools that offer programs for chemical engineering include Stanford and UC Berkeley.
In conclusion, these careers require utmost devotion to mathematics and sciences, and
that is what I have sought to pursue since I was a small child. Thus being so, I hope to attend
Stanford University and study chemical engineering as my first choice for my future.
