You could use the labels by them- selves and not paint all the parts, but | like see- ing the additional detail and color that the paint brings to the model The total time | spent onthe make-up kit was probably about five nda half hours The next step was it the busts. As | before, | decided t the faces as characters. This decision was more time consuming then if I put 8 bronze finish on them, but | wanted to see those beautiful sculptures by Jeff Yeagher brought to life! Painting the busts was great fun because I could concentrate on the faces and not have to worry about paint ing the bodies! | began the busts as well as Lon Chaney's face and ms by basecoating them with a medium fleshtone made from Raw Siena (a llow/brown), Burnt Siena (a red/brown) and white. | then dry- brushed lighter shades of fleshtone over the details. On the busts | took more creative rty by adding washes of color over the faces to give them a more unusual finish. Each bust took me about 3 hours to complete. The next stage was to render Chaney clothing. | painted his shirt with a warm light gray and drybrushed white over the folds of the fabric. | then paint- ed a conservative red tie. For Chaney's pants, I went for a dark blue pinstripe fabric. | began with a dark blue basecoat and dry- brush lighter shades of blue over the detail With a fine tip brush, | took a medium gray color (white would be too stark a contrast) and free handed the Pinstripes on his pants. The trick to something like this is to take your time and follow the flow of the fabric when placing the stripes, OF course pinstripes are optional but they are very AMAZING FIGURE MODELER effective. It took about two hours to do the stripes, and that includ: ed a couple of breathers. Again, if you find yourself getting tired, put down what your doing and come back to it later. This way all the visual interest is focused on the figure and the other ele ments. | painted the columns supporting the busts with a black mar- ble effect for the same reascn The great thing about this kit is that everyone can interpret t in their own way. | look forward to seeing o you have any quas: tions or comments for David write to: ModelMania P.O.
