Please respond to the following prompts:

1 Summarize the key points you learned from this Professional
Development experience.
On April 24, 2015, I was a judge for the West Virginia State Social Studies
Fair. I judged six 3rd-5th grade economic fair projects that ranged in topics
from coal mining to the development of Play-Doh. I found this experience to
be different than the RESA 3 Social Studies Fair as it was on a larger scale,
more competitive, and on a subject matter that I am less proficient in. From
this experience I learned that it will be beneficial in the future to further my
education on the subject of economics. It also reinforced my stance that I
want my future students to participate in a Social Studies fair.

2 Discuss how these key points connect to your content area.

This Professional Development experience directly relates to Social Studies. I
was able to see students present their appropriate age-level projects on the
Social Studies subcategory of economics. Being a judge in the fair taught me
how I would want to guide my students if they would enter in a Social Studies
fair.

3 Share how you might use this new information in your future
classroom.

I would take everything that I learned from being a Social Studies fair
judge and apply that to my future classroom. I do want my students to
participate in a Social Studies fair because I believe that it reinforces skills
such as researching, speaking, and critically thinking that will benefit
those students in the future.
