Entry 3: Differentiating Instruction through Technology

Introduction

( Technology has become such an important part of the introduction to education and its

sustainable effort to stay abreast of the information and properties invested in maintaining and

introducing the information at the rate we may receive it. “During the past two decades, higher

education has seen significant evolution in instructional philosophies and methods, in

technologies employed in teaching and learning, and in the roles and responsibilities of leaders
of academic technology support services” (Albright, M. m., & Nworie, J., 2007). That is why the

introduction of such instruction through educational methods have become important and used to

create development and purpose of understanding the technological advances in higher education

with educational websites, interactive whiteboards and computer labs throughout most of the

schools which look to create students prepared for the future outside the classroom.

Technology to Differentiate Instruction (300-400 words)

websites:  Using this tool to differentiate in instruction could mean more connection with

students as assigning projects and facilitating discussion with students can be challenging. By

providing direction and accessibility to websites requires an exchange of information and the

learning to become a competent online user. Also as the age group of computer users have

become younger, “there were significant differences by age and gender. Overall, results suggest

children’s Web site preferences are consistent with emotional, social, and cognitive development

encountered in middle childhood”. By supplying this alternative it can give students that come

from all levels from advanced to proportionally disadvantaged students opportunities to learn at a

similar level and unearth interest in a different facet.

Interactive whiteboards: Using this particular educational tool is something many newer

schools are using when trying to reach a broader range of students, while initiating interactive

qualities and participation within a classroom. This also requires the connection and the learning

while understanding how the internet and cursors can be used in developing interest in specific

topics. This tool can differentiate learning from its predecessor by allowing students to

participate actively and with peers and teachers by using other types of hands on technology

when accessing information and creating their work through this means of research, equations

and actual facts through a personalized effort. By allowing students to become a part of the
lesson plan through hands on efforts creates self- efficacy and accomplishments through

technology in education.

Computer labs: Computers have assumed an increasingly important role in the educational

process, and consequently, institutions of higher learning have sought to enhance the quality of

computer access they provide on their campuses (Bekkering, E., & Engelland, B., 2002). Using

this tool to differentiate instruction while helping to uplift the instructional quality of work and

education is applicable and very doable when used properly. Making sure to uphold the ISTE

standards of education in particular in social and global education provided for everyone as

thev21st century becomes more accessed in technology. Preparation of students to become

enhanced educators and balanced in manual and technical information and knowledge which will

allow for implementation of the learning being administered. Students must be held at the

standards to which they can have uphold the advancements in instructional education while

being able to understand, participate and fully gain while doing so.

Pros and Cons

The Pros and cons of using technology to differentiate instruction can be seen in mostly

how well students absorb and control the different alternatives to learning. Pros are that, as new

teachers adjust to information and technology as a whole, with the influx of information and as

this generation is technologically becoming more advanced; it would be wise to stay abreast and

help navigate the process properly. The cons can be the dependency on outer stimuli and having

things done at a greater rate, leaves some students behind as they may not learn as fast or require

technology for all topics and subjects.

Concluding Paragraph
( By providing alternatives ways through technology and creating lasting effects and

relationships with several different advancements in education a teachers job to create a self-

reliable student, while promoting a better equipped student to understand and build upon the

different ways of instruction in education can be purposeful and fulfilling for them both.

Education is becoming more hands on and requiring the use of certain technologies only can

advance that premise especially by differentiating such instruction with several tool at the

disposal of the student in the classroom.
