Odd numbers buzz

Even Odd Yoyos . Give each child a


number from 1-6. Roll a dice if its an
even number, the evens sit down if its
odd the odds sit down. Keep rolling and
standing and bobbing as the numbers
are rolled.

Discuss where children have heard


odd and even used (eg. Odd socks)
and what these terms mean. Write
childrens definitions on the board.
Talk about the fact even numbers
can be shared equally between 2
people without any left over; odd
numbers cannot be divided into 2
equal lots- there is always one left
over.

Give each child seven craft sticks.


Ask, Is seven even or odd number?
Have children hold some sticks in
each hand. Ask, How many in each
hand? Which number is odd and which
is even? Children share combinations.
Repeat with 3,5,8,9,etc

Working in pairs, have children
take turns to take a hanful of
counters. Investigate whether
the counters can be shared
evenly between them. Both
children record their answers on
on BLM 53. Colour the square
red if the number can be shared
and crossing the number if it
cannot be shared evenly.

In pairs students have a deck of


cards 1-10 (Aces one) Place deck
of cards in the middle. Students
take turns to turn over a card
whoever has the even card gets to
keep both cards. If both players
have an even card they keep their
own card. Player with the most
cards when the deck is finished is
the winner. If time shuffle and
play again.
