Fis printing: etember 2008 Pnteain Chia FOR The soldiers of World War Il were thrown into many a desperate fight, but taken alone, few, if any, of those engagements ‘would have a decisive impact on the outcome of the war. Great generals had to build on early victories to seize the day and ‘overcome tactical set-backs for longer term strategic benefits. The para-commandos that dove in the middle ofthe night, on June 6, 1944, were just one of the many factors that helped the Allies and with success, despite heavy losses under the withering fire ‘of German batteries in the wee hours of the morning; and these landings were in turn the critical first step toward establishing ‘a beachhead through which the Allied armada would progressively roll onto free all of France in the months that followed. This first Campaign Book for Memotr 44 brings a new dimension tothe game: instead of playing each scenario individually, {ou will now be given a chance to play those in succession, using new campaign rules to ink the outcome of one battle to the next. Will you throw all of your troops into battle at once, at the risk of lacking crucial resources later on; or should you adont ‘more cautious stance, Keeping some units in reserve to ensure that any future setback remains temporary? The final victory will hinge on the tactical and strategic choices you make. Three Theaters of Operation, each with ts own unique set of campaigns, are available to play in. Each campaign contains many new scenarios, all fruit of the long and passionate labor of a small group of incredibly dedicated players - all well-known ‘members of our Memoir '44 community. In all more than 50 new scenarios await your discovery in this booklet! ‘The first set of campaigns places you inthe footsteps of Montgomery during the battle for Caen and the freeing of Normandy inthe summer of 1944. We recommend that you start with one ofthese campaigns, as they will help familiarize you with our new campaign rules. The second set of campaigns will set you at the eve of the War, as you relive the desperate struggle of the Allies against the German Blitzkrieg that terrified the population of Western Europe in 1940. Finally, a third set of campaigns will transport you to the frozen steppes of the USSR during Operation Barbarossa, inthe summer, fall and bitterly cold winter of 1941. You will also discover some new special rules in this book. Each campaign will thus bring its own set of challenges and surprises, which you wil learn to master. But don't wait: select a campaign, call your command staff, and head out to lead your men to victory!
