The Wallace Foundation has created an amazing website to be used
by teacher leaders. The foundation funds projects to test innovative
ideas for solving important social problems, conducts research to find
out what works and what doesnt and fills key knowledge gaps.
Theyve created this website to communicate with others the results of
these projects.
If you visit the Knowledge Center, youll quickly find a wealth of
information on such topics as: effective educational policymaking,
effective school leadership, learner-focused leadership, data-driven
decision making and increasing student achievement through
effective leadership practices.
Other topics include after school programs, arts education, summer
and expanded learning, teacher recruitment, and advancing
philanthropy.
This website ties closely with Domain II: Accessing and Using Research
to Improve Practice and Student Learning. The projects featured on
this webpage have been implemented in school districts throughout
the US and offer insight into what has been proven to work.
The Advancing Philanthropy page features ways that teacher leaders
and administrators can facilitate professional learning among
colleagues (Domain III) using webinars and PLCs as well as using grants
and nonprofit organizations to secure additional resources for student
achievement (Domain VII).

This website requires a membership to access all parts of the website,
however I have found the website to be helpful without buying the
membership. The Professional Learning Association provides
publications to build the bridge between what is known about highquality professional development and how you can put those ideas
into practice.
They have developed Standards for Professional Learning that
incorporate many of the functions of the TLMS. These standards are
broken down into subtopics that explore different aspects of the
standards.
For example, the Learning Communities Standard discusses how to
engage in continuous improvement, develop collective responsibility,
and create alignment and accountability within schools.
Other standards include: leadership, data, learning designs and
implementation. Each Standard has its own page with related
research, which has been helpful to me when seeking even more
information.
This website aligns greatly with Domain I (Fostering a Collaborative
Culture to Support Educator Development and Student Learning) and
Domain III (Promoting Professional Learning for Continuous
Improvement).

Book: School Leadership That Works: From Research to Results

Authors: Robert J. Marzano, Timothy Waters, Brian A. McNulty (2005)
This book features 21 responsibilities of a school leader and aligns with
every Domain of the TLMS. It has a little bit of everything! It provides
very practical applications for each of the responsibilities (from culture
and communication to curriculum, instruction and assessment). It has
been a resource that Ive used since the beginning of this program.
The section entitled Doing the Right Work focuses on setting up a
plan to bring about change within our schools. A five-step plan is
proposed which includes how to develop a strong school leadership
team, the importance of distributing responsibilities and how to identify
what your goals should be.
