Subject:

Stop Illegal Labor Practices in Capital Industries

Dear Mr. Sheikh Waqar

We are writing you to demonstrate our deep concerns on ongoing situation in Capital
Industries Lahore, which gives clear picture of violation of labor laws and anti worker
approach by the management. On May 24th 2011, referendum was held in capital
industry, as a result, Workers Union Capital Industry (affiliated All Pakistan Trade Union
Federation) won referendum and become collective bargaining agent. After winning
election union has tried a lot to hold meeting with management and present demand
notice but instead of initiating dialogue with workers union (CBA), management has
shown its usual attitude of aggression and repression against workers, restraining them to
freely utilize their right of freedom of association. Certain steps have been taken by you
to show that factory is in loss and threat workers to shut off the factory.
A demand notice is already pending but instead of dialogue, you started to victimize and
harass the union activists to withdraw demand notice. This situation reveals that this act
of management is anti workers as well as anti union, and is a clear violation of countrys
labor laws and ILO conventions 87 & 98. This whole scenario and miserable working
conditions at your premises has created a great deal of apprehension among us that
workers are not let to practice their very legal right of collective bargaining.
Under these circumstances, we strongly denounce management policy to attack workers
union, and demand you to:

Start negotiations with Workers Union of Capital Industry (CBA).

Accept workers demands immediately such as salary increase, health &
safety measures, medical treatment, production incentive/ bonus.
Restore already availed benefits.

We convey our full support and solidarity to All Pakistan Trade Union Federation
and their cause, and determined to continue our struggle together, till each worker gets
his right.
We hope that you will arrange proper measures to solve this matter, and chalk out
remedies for workers grievances.
Sincerely,
