Year 9 History
Purpose:
You are to create a letter to send home to a loved one or a diary entry as if you
were an ANZAC solider fighting in the trenches at Gallipoli.
Investigation:
In the letter you must show me how much you know about Australian
soldiers and what they did, and how they lived on the front. For example
you might describe what the trenches were like, or talk about what a
regular month would be like. The more you show me you know and have
learnt the better.
To achieve a high grade, good letters will include:
Historical knowledge (Names, dates, places)
Personal thoughts and feelings (I saw.. I heard.. I felt.)
Display knowledge of the life of solider (Thoughts before
going to war, how they felt when they arrived, what they
hoped to do when they got home
Drawing on previous lessons will also help you gain a high grade such as
propaganda, the Gallipoli landing and trench warfare.
Format:
When writing your answer, you can write in one of the following ways:
First person
Diary format
If you choose to do Diary Format you are allowed to write 2-3 entries as long
as they correctly demonstrate knowledge of chronological events and feelings
unfolding.
You may also record an audio version and submit it that way HOWEVER I will
still need to see a transcript of your letter/diary.
The letter may feature your fellow class mates as soldiers such: Sargent
Starkey or Major Muscat to help give your letter depth.
