The Heart
Lesson plan:
Lesson # Circulatory System in
a series of Heart lessons
Brief Lesson Description: The heart is one part of circulatory system. Its consist from many
parts which have functions to contribute on heart working. The heart is in the center of the
human chest and its careen a little to the left side. There are 4 chambers on the heart where
2 chambers on the left side of the heard and other 2 on the right side of the heart. The 2
sides (left and right sides) of the heart are working on separate (working on opposite way)
but they are working on the same time. These opposite way of the 2 sides help the heart to
work on regularity way. Where the right side carry the deoxygenated blood to the lungs and
the left side carry the oxygenated blood to the rest organs on the body like head and neck.
Performance Expectation(s): Develop and use a model to describe the function of a cell as a
whole and ways parts of cells contribute to the function. (The students able to locate the
heart parts and know how it work through the heart model).
Specific Learning Outcomes:
What are the heart parts?
What is the function of each part?
How the heart work?
Narrative / Background Information
Prior Student Knowledge:
The students know what are the heart parts? (From the previous lesson).
Grade/ Grade Band: 6B2
Topic: Heart
Crosscutting Concepts:
Structure and Function.
Complex and microscopic
structures and systems can be
visualized, modeled, and used
to describe how their function
depends on the relationships
among its parts, therefore
complex natural structures/
systems can be analyzed to
determine how they function.
(MS-LS1-2)
go to the body. (That may confused them). I will explain that to them on the heart model
which may help them to label these points in their minds.
LESSON PLAN 5-E Model
ENGAGE: Opening Activity Access Prior Learning / Stimulate Interest / Generate
Questions:
Discussion with whole class about the heart
How can you increase your heart beats?
Sport activity
Divide the students into two parts.
Put a leader for each group.
Each team should follow their leaders. (Do what he do).
The leader do any sport exercise that increase the heart beats for one minute.
The teacher and students will evaluate which group is win.
The winner group will get a point to their evaluation board.
EXPLORE: Lesson Description Materials Needed / Probing or Clarifying Questions:
Heart model (I will bring it from the school science lab) and through it students will locate the
heart parts.
-Deoxygenated
-Vena Cava
-Pulmonary Vein
-Right Atrium
-Left Atrium
-Tricuspid Valve
-Mitral Valve
-Right Ventricle
-Left Ventricle
-Pulmonary Valve
-Aortic Valve
-Pulmonary Artery
-Aorta
-Lungs
-Body
ELABORATE: Applications and Extensions: Worksheet: write a summary of How your heart
works? (As a group).
EVALUATE:
Create a heart phenomenon by using clays (as a group). Then label each part of the heart.
After I will evaluate each group on specific standards.
Formative Monitoring (Questioning / Discussion): What are heart parts? How the heart
working?
Summative Assessment (Quiz / Project / Report): Do a heart phenomenon.
Reflection:
On today lesson, I think it was a little bit successful. Where I did all my objective
(activities) for today. All activities was going well, while I faced some problem with
students behavior. But I used a several strategy to control them such as hands up
and counting to 5. Addition to that, the things that satisfy me in this lesson was
that I done all of my objective (activities) despite I have a students misbehavior.
