Title: Sub Sahara African Animals and Project


Summary: Students will be able to develop and present a PowerPoint
presentation on their favorite animal in Sub Sahara Africa as a group,
working together on Google Slides.
Learners: Students are of all reading and writing levels.
3rd Grade Science

with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, speaking

situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification.
W.3.8. Recall information from experiences or gather information from
print and digital sources; take brief notes on sources and sort evidence
into provided categories.

Timeline of activities (Instructional Procedures):


Start at 1:15
- Open the PowerPoint titled Sub Saharan Africa. Connect to
SMART board. Notes for slideshow are on my desk. Briefly
present slideshow to students and have them take notes on red
highlighted text in PowerPoint. (should have notes done already;
talked about this last week)

Explain to the students that they are going to be working in


groups creating a slideshow about an animal from Sub Sahara
Africa.
On the computer and SMART board, show the students how to
sign into Google Slides with their username and password
provided on their desks.
Explain how to create the start of a slideshow and share to their
partners so they can all work on it together from different
computers.
Have them share it with me as well so I can grade them
There is a list of partners on my desk.
Pull up the rubric on the SMART board so students know what to
include in their slideshow.
Remind them they only get this time to work on it and will
present tomorrow.
Have them get into their group and discuss: (rubric below)
- The animal they are going to research
-What parts each person is going to research to fairly make
the slideshow
Dismiss the students to go to the computer lab when they have
everything planned.
Students will login to google slides with their username and
password they have been provided earlier this year.
A partner will create a slideshow and then share it with their
partners and I.
Students will need help navigating through Google Slides.
They are allowed to be in there for an hour and a half.
Students may have questions, just try to help them as best as
possible.
When they are done they may practice quietly presenting with
their partner.
Dismiss them to recess when the hour and a half time limit is up.

Pull out a name the name jar to see what group goes first and
continue to pull names to see who goes next.
Help the students pull up their slideshow on the SMART board.
They can start whenever they are ready.
Students should ask questions at the end if they have any.
Thank the students for their hard work and interest in this
activity/ subject.

Assessment Plan:
- Ask frequent questions over the material and answer any
questions they may have on the information.
- The knowledge they learned from class will carry over when they
create and present their slideshow.
- Students will be graded on the following rubric.
