Also known as the Patient Self-Determination Act, and also the Republic Act 7170, the purpose of

the Organ Donation Act of 1991 is to inform patients in the Philippines of their rights regarding
decisions toward their own medical care, and ensure those rights are communicated by health care
providers. Specifically, the act ensures the patients of their right to dictate future care by means of
a living will or power of attorney should they become incapacitated, and directs health care
professionals of their wishes regarding organ donations.

Organ donation laws at the state and federal levels exist for two
primary purposes.The first purpose of organ donation laws is to help
ensure a safe and fair organ donationcollection and distribution
practice. The second type of organ donation laws have beenenacted
to widen the pool of potential donors in an effort to increase the
number of organs available for transplant
To provide the regulation of removal, storage & transplantation of human organs for therapeutic
purpose & for prevention of commercial dealings in human organs
