Math This week we worked on multiplying two decimals and how that af-

fects decimal placement in the answer, how to divide decimals by a whole

number and by decimals, and we worked on multiple step word problems. We
will be reviewing for our Topic 7 test on Monday and then testing on Tuesday.
Our next topic will be on Shapes.

Reading

Our story next week is The Fabulous Perpetual Motion Machine.

It is a play about student inventors. We will be practicing the reading skills
of sequencing and summarizing.

Grammar Next week we will be reviewing the four types of sentences:

Declarative, Imperative, Interrogative, and Exclamatory.

Writing This week students dove right into researching their debate topic. They are working on building a 5 paragraph essay with three strong reasons supporting their stance. We will be working on finishing our drafts then
revising and editing our debates through next week.

Spelling- Our list focuses on schwa sounds. This will be a tough test. The
best way to prepare for this test is to practice, practice, practice.

Social Studies Students took their chapter 3 test this week which was
over early explorers. I was very pleased with the test scores. I could definitely tell which students studied and took notes. They were rewarded with
a very pleasant grade. We began our next chapter which covers European
Settlements in the new world. Students will be learning about the original
Spanish, French, and English colonies established in North America.

Science-This week we reviewed the unit on the Solar System in prepara-

tion for our unit test which was given yesterday. Our next unit (unit 2) will
be on Conservation of Matter. We will be diving into solids, liquids, and gases. We will discuss mass vs. weight and be learning the difference between
chemical and physical changes. Students will participate in many fun handson experiments during this unit.

Note From the Teacher:

Last week the new Book It calendar came home. Students must read 600 minutes
within the month in order to qualify for the free pizza certificate. Encourage your child to
read 20 minutes a day.
Scholastic book orders are due November 13. is right around the corner and books
make great gifts! Consider purchasing some books as Christmas presents. We can always
arrange for a pick-up without your child knowing about it.
