Lesson Planning: Questions to ask yourself

1. What is this chapter about?

2. What grammar does this chapter teach?

3. What functions of language does this chapter teach? (narrating in the


past, asking for directions, describing people, etc.)

4. How is this chapter useful to my student, and what parts are relevant
to my students life and goals?

5. What do I want the student to be able to DO when we have finished


studying this chapter?

6. How will I know that the student can do it? What tasks will the
student have to complete in order to show me that they have
mastered that material?

7. What activities will help the student practice those tasks?

8. What do I need to explain and teach through direct instruction so


that the student can do those tasks?

Start your lesson with the direct instruction you describe in Part 8,
then move on to the practice exercises that you wrote about in Part 7.
