Online Projects, Collaboration Sites, and Publishing Opportunities

Lesson Plan
Name: Cassandra OBrien
Grade Level: 4th
Content Area: Language Arts
Standards Addressed: ELAGSE4W3: Write narratives to develop real or
imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive
details, and clear event sequences.
Title of Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity: KidPup
URL of Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity:
http://www.kidpub.com/
Describe how you would use the Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing
Opportunity in your classroom:
I will use KidPup to have the students produce a narrative of their choice
topic and post it to the website. Then over the course of a week they will
look over each others work and comment and suggest how to revise
their paper. Then after the week is done the students will fix their own
work then publish the work again as a complete paper to be graded.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity
in a classroom?
The technologies that are required to implement this learning activity
would be KidPup account for the students to publish their work, and a
Word program to type up their work for the students to be able to
publish their work.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience
(note: all of them may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you
are reaching a high LoTi Level.):
Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often
beyond their school: Students will have collaboration from peers outside
their classroom by having them critique their narrative paper and add
suggestions and comments to create a better paper (revision process).
Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting original data and or
producing original products as a result of engaging in the project): Students will
be producing an original product by producing from their minds a
narrative piece.
Higher-order thinking: Students will be on the creating end of higher-order
thinking because they are creating an original piece of work through
their minds producing a narrative piece.
Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their
product: They will be publishing their piece for critique then taking it
down to fix then publish again for students to see how they accomplish
writing a narrative and for someone who do not know where to begin
they can look at the students narratives for a starting place. Also

parents can look at their published author on the website through their
own account.

What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning activity and
Why?
The LoTi that best describes this learning activity is level 5 because
students are creating a piece of work and publishing it, which brings the
LoTi level to 5 because it is published.
How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still comply with
your districts Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies?
The website is password protected so not just anyone can come in and
find my students work and in a since find where they are. I will also tell
the students the Internet safety rules, which also implies that when
writing their piece use initials instead of full name so they cannot be
traced and found by someone that should not know where they are. I
will also monitor the students and the website to make sure that is safe
for the students to use, because the last need anyone wants is for
something to bad to happen because precautions where not used.
