UP

UP follows a story of Carl Fredicksen, a shy and quiet boy, who had long idolized the well-known
explorer, Charles F. Muntz. But, he had been accused of fraud upon returning from a trek in South
America. As a result, he vowed to return only after he brought the creature alive. One day, Carl met a
girl named Ellie who is a heavy Muntz fan. Ellie realized that Carl is also a fan of Muntz, and thus detailed
her plan on her scrapbook to move her Muntz clubhouse to a place named Paradise Falls, an amazing
waterfall cliff located on South America and making him to promise that he will help her. Eventually,
they fell in love with each other, and married. After leading a usual life, they realized that they were
unable to have children, and thus they repeatedly save up for a trip to Paradise Falls. However, the delay
of the trip was inevitable, as other financial obligation arise. Finally, after being ready to begin the
voyage, Ellie died of an old age, leaving Carl as alone.

As the time goes by, the city grew around Carl’s old house with new construction, but he refused to
move. After an ensuing feud with one of the construction workers, he is forced to move out to a
retirement home. Not wanting to be taken, he decided to makeshift his house into an airship, by using a
lot of balloons to lift the house from ground and embarked a journey to Paradise Falls. But, oblivious to
him that Russel, a Wilderness Explorer trying to earn his final merit badge had stowed away on the
porch after Carl sent him to a ridiculous snipe hunting of a non-existing creature in order to get rid of
him the day before. After discovering him, Carl was forced to take Russel along with the journey.

Eventually, they reached a ravine facing Paradise Falls. But, as the helium rate in the balloons began to
decrease, they were forced to continue their journey by binding the house to their bodies using ropes.
Later, they encountered a lot of unusual things, a large and colorful flightless bird which Russel named
Kevin, and Dug, a talking dog made possible by a special collar installed on its neck. Later, they found out
that Dug’s master is none other than Charles Muntz. Failing to recover the specimen had made him
stuck in a cave near Paradise Falls. At first, Carl was thrilled to see Charles, but after learning Kevin from
Russel, Charles decided to acquire the bird, even though it means killing both Carl and Russel. They
succeeded on escaping Muntz and his dogs, but Kevin was unable to flee and was captured. Carl, tired of
all of this, decided to go on to settle his house over the Paradise Falls, much to Russel’s dismay.

Finally settling down, Carl is reading Ellie childhood’s scrapbook when suddenly he saw photographs of
their life added to formerly blank pages with a final note at the end thanking Carl for the adventure and
encourage him to get a new one. Enlightened by the notes, he went out to find Russel only to see him
flying with some balloons to save Kevin by himself. Carl weighted down the house by throwing out all
the furniture inside and give a chase to Russel. Russel ended up being captured, but Carl succeeded in
freeing him and Kevin with help from Dug. Muntz pursued them until he managed to corner Dug, Kevin,
and Russel in Carl’s house. Carl managed to lure Kevin out of the house with Dug and Russel hanging on
her. Muntz leaped to reach them, only to be snagged on some balloons and fell to his apparent death.
The house proceeded to descend below the clouds, but Carl decided to let it go. Then, Carl managed to
return Kevin to her chicks and took over Muntz airship.

After flying back to the city, When Russell's father misses his son's Senior Explorer ceremony, Carl fulfills
that role himself to proudly present Russell with his final badge: the grape soda cap badge that Ellie gave
to Carl when they first met. Russell adopts Carl as his father figure, while Dug takes to him as his new
master. Finally, the three set out on many new adventures.
