INTRODUCTION
As is well known in our country it is clear that one of the social problems that most affects is the
management and the guarantee of a quality of life in older people, perhaps because of the lack
of economic resources to provide programs that meet their family needs and problems
generated by its abandonment. This is a stage of life where the person has drastic changes in
both the biological, physiological and social aspect.

The intervention of social work with older adults have as a central focus the idea that each
person should have the opportunity to develop their potential and live a fulfilling life; however you
must remember that in the work with older adults different levels of intervention are required, it
should also bear in mind that the elderly population is not a homogeneous but heterogeneous
group. (In the foreground is critical to consider gender, groups of elderly pensioners,
independent, homeless, indigenous, displaced, religious, etc.) (Rodrguez & Manzanares, 2003,
p.122)
This research was conducted at the foundation "Hogar Clarita Santos" located in the Las Cruces
neighborhood of the town Santa Fe.

OBJECTIVES
General
Identify the main problems experienced by the elderly, at this stage of the life cycle.
Specific
Defining the leading causes of elderly neglect
Propose strategies from Social Work aimed at improving the care and quality of life of these
people.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
To contextualize the reader consider important to explain the following theoretical framework,
related to the topic of research.
ELDERLY
To start it is important to define the concept of Elderly, why the aspects of the law 1251 of 2008
and Decree No. 345 of 2010, which defines this as "a person who has taken into account sixty
(60) years of age or older "in addition to the above, the World Health Organization (OMS)
defines the elderly from the very conception, since it considers those who have already served
60 years, seniors; so you could say that practically worldwide, the concept or idea is maintained
with respect to the reference age with which it begins at an older age.
FAMILY AND OLD AGE
Since the family has a very important role during the life cycle, it is necessary to define "as a
group of people together, dealing with the upbringing and education of their children, according
to the traditions and norms of their culture". Therefore, within this framework, the family
becomes a protective factor in the development of the dynamics of an adult. However, "the
families are much more than care and mutual support. For many of us is the space in which we
conduct our deepest human experiences. Intimacy and passion, identity and individuality,
connection with the past and beliefs about the future, everything stems from that little link.
Because the deepest human feelings have their source in the family "(Guerrini 2009 p.2)

BIOLOGY OF AGING
Aging is an irreversible biological process by which people have to go, reaching the point of
death. Given a Cantera (2002):
An organism when aging manifests its vitality decreases as proportionally increases their
vulnerability. Therefore, the old body differs from the young by the slowing of some
functions and the disappearance of others, as the high incidence of diseases."
GERONTOLOGY
Gerontology examines the aging process in all its dimensions: biological, psychological,
economic, political and social. It is the study of aging from an interdisciplinary perspective, where
the focus is the gerontological approach that provides the necessary and sufficient to meet the
demands of older tools. (Moran, 2004, p.85)

SOLUTION STRATEGIES
1. Strengthen family ties through assertive and affective communication.
2. Make a process of inclusion and delegate small tasks at home, so that the older person
feel important.
3. Dialoge and be tolerant, respect for the older person is very important.
