Children develop phonological awareness skills and understand the role of

help children listen to parts of the words and and to sounds by engaging
them in reading, writing, and oral language activities that are playful and
enjoyable. The activities could include:
Reading aloud.
Shared reading and writing.
Songs, chants and rhymes.
Books that involve language word play.
Oral games: clapping syllables, picture sorting, listening for sounds,
rhyming words, letter play, labels, alphabet soup, matching sounds,
phoneme fun, concentration, ABC travel, collecting sound pictures,
mystery sounds, etc.
Some of the activities used by the presenters were:
Listening for particular beginning sounds by playing I spy.
Playing a letter sounds hunt.
Making and singing the ABC book (Antonio the Apple, A, A, A).
