Long Range Planning Self-Assessment

Please indicate your level of performance with respect to these criteria,
taken from the rubric for this project, and provide specific evidence in
narrative form below each criterion.

Each objective that I placed in the beginning of a unit I tried to make so that it
helped meet with both the CCSS as well as the WI teaching standards. I wanted
them to be stated plainly so the students could understand them and understand
where I want them to end up at the end of the unit as well as the end of the
semester/year with them.

The questions support and address the standards and objectives.

The questions in each unit are relatable to the students. Each of the questions that
are posed with the units are learning targets that the students will receive in the
beginning of the unit. This way they know what I expect them to be able to answer
by the end of the unit. The questions pertain what the students should be able to
do by the time they finish with the 11th grade.

A variety of formative assessments are used throughout each unit.

Throughout the units I used a variety of assessments, including some where the
students got to choose what their summative assessment was going to be. This
way the students could pick what they feel is their strongest form of assessment to
get graded on. Also, by doing different forms of assessments, each student has a
chance to succeed and better themselves in areas that they arent the strongest.

The work the students complete in each unit is meaningful and authentic.

Each activity planned is planned for a specific reason and is meant to allow the
students to advance themselves in some way. There isnt an assignment that isnt
meant just to fill space. I tried to make the activities useful and entertaining so the
students wont get bored of the same old-fashioned styles of learning. I also
planned the activities to stimulate each type of MI in the classroom.

Sequence of units and activities is logical (prerequisite understandings and skills are
taught at the appropriate times).

I started my units in the order they were assigned. It made sense for me to start with the
speaking and listening unit simply for the fact that in that unit were all the basic graphic novel
information is located for them to begin with. I figured that would be the smartest way to start
out the semester because I cant expect my students to succeed if I do not give them the basic
information. I also figured having Batman as a first novel would be good because many of the
students would have already seen one of the films prior to the unit.
I went with my narrative unit second because I wanted my students to start the process of
reading and comprehending a GN as well as writing part of a story as well. They will learn to
look up materials as well as speak in front of the class, which will help them in their final two
units.
I decided to do my research unit next, because the students have already two GN and can
now understand the basics to them. Also, I want my students to learn how to choose credible
research cites before their PBL unit. The students will have already done narrative writing
samples from their previous unit of narrative writing, so they will have basic skills to go off of
and have room to expand their writing skills.
I chose the PBR for the last unit because that would give me and the other teachers time
to collaborate and get ready for our unit. Also, because my students will be able to use all of the
information that they have already learned and will be able to excel in this intense section. I had
to shorten this unit to fit into my time frame for classes (from 45 min to 90 min classes) so it will
be their hardest unit, I feel, therefore benefiting from all the things they have learned so far.
