Reservoir Rock Properties
Homework No. | - Estimation of Porosity from Density, Sonic, and Neutron Logs
Fall 1991
Due: 09/18/91
Note: You must use Engineering Analysis paper which is available at all bookstores and
even Skaggs (I think).
‘Using the well logs given in the 306 notes (Subsurface Measurement of Porosity section),
you are to estimate the porosity in the following intervals on a 2 ft. basis (this means that
You take values from the log every 2 ft).
Interval
4144-4158
4170-4186
4198-4212
1. You are to determine the porosities in these intervals assuming sandstone, limestone,
and dolomite matrices. The following table format will be useful
Case 1: Assume lithology is sandstor
Case 2: Assume lithology is limesto
Case 3: Assume lithology is dolomite:
pm = 2.65 BICC, btm = 55.6 usec/ft
Pm = 2.71 $/CC, Al
Pm = 2.87 8/CC, Alon
In all cases assume that for the water pr = 1.00 g/ec, At; = 189.0 pseci/ft.

2. Estimate the lithology of each interval by comparison of porosity values from each
method.
