Narrative
Drawing from previous professional experience, candidates in the licensure program at the
masters level have the opportunity to capitalize on their developed life skills and abilities to
engage students in a focused educational context. Learning a variety of instructional models and
building on developmental and learning theories, candidates plan and implement differentiated
instruction that reflects the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards, the Common Core State
Standards, the Wisconsin Teacher Standards, and the Council for Exceptional Children Teacher
Standards. Candidates observe and analyze inclusive classroom settings to design model
learning communities that encourage collaborative contextual engagement within environments
that honor diversity and creativity. An in-depth examination of issues related to the education of
P-12 students with and without special needs, as well as appropriate curriculum and instructional
strategies for meeting student needs, is studied. A field experience in a local inclusive classroom
provides practical observation and teaching experiences. Teaching two lessons in a seventh grade
English classroom and designing a civil rights unit in collaboration with a peer extended Ms.
Carmodys understanding of planning, implementing and assessing learning for both her students
and herself.
