My mentor is Dr. Smith

She has a bachelor of science in biology from the

university of Houston

She has a doctorate of dental surgery from University of

Texas health science center at Houston, school of
dentistry.

Independent study mentorship

ISM or independent study mentorship is a class that allows you to

have a mentor, to shadow your mentor, and to learn about your
specific field of research.

ISM allows you to frequently visit your specific mentors work and
observe them while they work.

Ism requires a final presentation that shows all the accumulated

knowledge and research that you have obtained.

Digital Dentistry

My topic is digital dentistry

Digital dentistry is the use of new and innovative technology to

do dental work

Digital Dentistry allows for more precise calculations and quicker

creation of dental equipment

I chose this topic because digital dentistry is continually

becoming more and more important in the dental field.

Key Points

X-rays: phosphor plates versus old x-rays

Impressions: digital impressions versus putty impressions

Phosper plates are highly detailed x-rays that allow for more efficient
diagnostics of the patient. They also are significantly harder to break than
old x-ray plates
Digital impressions have lead to computer generated impressions that
replaced material impressions that could be messed up when sent to the
lab.

The development and implementation of implants

Implants have continued to improve. They now allow for almost instant
application of them rather than waiting months to do the procedure. Also
the materials used in the implants have increasingly become more cost
effective and more durable.

Product

My product will be a video of me showing how to use the x-rays,

and or digital impressions

This demonstration will show the viewers how these items are
used in everyday dentistry.

I will use this in the section where I discuss digital impressions.

I will define digital impressions in this slide and explain how it

works. After this I will use the video to demonstrate to the
audience how to properly use this

What needs to be done

I need to research the three points that will be used and write
down this information

I need to start to develop my product

I need to begin to work on the handout that I will pass out

I need to put my research that I found on the powerpoint that will

be used to present.

conclusion

Digital Dentistry will continue to be influential in the growth of

dentistry. Dental labs continue to develop better and more
effective machines that In time can be mass produced and create
more effective dental work.

This is a good topic to study because the topics discussed here

are either fundamental or becoming fundamental to dental work.

These topics that I research will continue to be used by dentist

for the next couple years.
