Quick Guide to Programming Clusters and Resiliency

Page 1
Introduction

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to program clusters and resiliency for a
network of three 3300 ICPs and OPS Manager. Resiliency programming depends on cluster
programming, which this guide will demonstrate. For detailed information about Resiliency and
clusters, see the “Resiliency “and “Portable Directory Number (Clusters)” guides. Both these
guides are located at http://edocs.mitel.com under 3300 ICP Networking.

Minimum Software requirements

• 3300 ICP Release 4.0 and higher
• OPS Manager 6.7 and higher

Programming Steps
• Program cluster in each 3300 ICP
• Program IP trunk and ARS between 3300 ICPs
• Program cluster in OPS Manager
• Program Resilient IP Phones in OPS Manager

Programming Cluster in each 3300 ICP

Site 1:

1. Program OPS Manager settings in the 3300 ICP

Launch the 3300 ICP System Administration Tool and go to System Administration Tool /System
Configuration/ Unites/Module. Enter the following information:
• OpsMgrIPAddress Enter Ops-Manager IP address
• OpsMgrHostName Enter Ops-Manager Host name
• OpsMgrFtpUsername Enter Ops-Manager Ftp username
• OpsMgrFtpPassword Enter Ops-Manager Ftp user password

2. Program IP Trunks

The first step in Programming IP trunks is programming the ICP/PBX Assignment. The PBX
number can be any 3 or 4-digit number, (the same digits must be used for Cluster Element Index
Number), and the IP address of the 3300 RTC should be programmed (see 3300 ICP help for
complete IP trunks programming)

PBX Number must be the

same as CEID number of the
PBX

3. Program ARS:

• In the ARS Dialed Digits Assignment form, program the Cluster Element Digits as
leading digits, which point to the other 3300 ICP.

4. Programming Cluster Element Index (CEID)

• System Administration Tool > System Administration >Telephone Directory

Management. Open the Cluster Element Assignment form:

• The Cluster Element ID (CEID) is the ICP network ID and it should be the same in all
3300 ICPs in the cluster; therefore, the Cluster Element Assignment form must be the
same in all 3300 ICPs. The only difference is the Local field set to YES for the Cluster
Element ID of the 3300 ICP that you are programming.

• Feature DN field must be programmed with any 4-digit number and the number
should be the same in all ICP. This number is used to enable network features such
as Remote DSS/BLF.

5. Repeat the above four programming steps at every 3300 ICP in the clustered network.

Programming OPS Manager

1. Open Configuration/Network Element/Editor

• Program the Site Name, PBX variant (If you are using Enterprise Manager these fields
will be grayed out because OPS Manager will import them automatically from
Enterprise Manager.
• Enter the Cluster Element Index number of the 3300 ICP.
• Check Portable Directory and Managed by OPS Manager.
• Enter the User Name and Password, Time Zone, Daylight Saving and Directory
Number Range.
• Click Commit.
Program the Network Elements for Site 2 and Site 3, making sure that the Directory
Number Range is entered and is the same (that is, 1000-9999).

2. Program Portable Directory Group

• Open Configuration > Directory Management > Portable Directory Group Setup
and assign the Portable Directory Group a group name. Select the 3300 ICPs and
then click Commit.

Page 6
3. Program Distribution List

• Enter Distribution List name.

• Set Default Distribution List to YES.
• Select the Portable Directory Group Name and click Commit.

4. Collection of the Telephone Directory from each 3300 ICP

• Go to Configuration > Directory Management.

• Click Full Collection from Network Element.
• Click Schedule, New.
• Enter the time for the collection
• Select the 3300 ICPs to collect from and then click Commit.

Check Windows event viewer/ Application to make sure that no errors occurred during
collection.

5. Synchronization with all 3300 ICPs

• Go to Configuration > Directory Management.

• Synchronize with Network Element.
• Schedule New / On Demand.
• Select all 3300 ICPs.
• Click Sync Now and then click Commit.

6- Collect Unused Directory Numbers/Circuits

• Click Configuration, Network Element and then click Collect Unused Directory
Numbers/Circuit.

Page 10
Enabling Resiliency

• Go to Configuration > Directory Management

• Open the Moves, Adds and Changes Editor
• Highlight the extension that you want to set as a resilient then click Change User
• Check Enable Resiliency and choose the Secondary Element from the Pull down
Menu
• Click Commit.
• After you finish programming all resilient extensions, perform a synchronization with
all the elements
• The Default Resiliency Policy is adequate for programming resilient extensions;
however, if you want to change the Resiliency Policy, go to the Moves, Adds and
Changes form. Click Options and then click Resiliency Policy.
