Unit 1 Project: The Infected

The Scenario: OMG!!! The earth is being attacked by the unfortunate souls that have been infected with rage
(aka the, Infected...catchy I know). Those who are infected have been seen attacking citizens and spreading
their rage! Because of this crazy thirst for destruction, the infected have wiped out almost the entire society;
including those in positions of power like the government. Through their raids, they have managed to infect
others and build their defenses with numbers. You and your group members are some of the only healthy,
sane, and uninfected people left and you must do what you can to rebuild your once beloved society.
The Group Work: As a group (if you are working in one), you must decide on the following things:
1) What theory, or theories would influence how your state is to be formed?
In other words, your society is starting from your group members and the
small amount of people left who are not infected. Explain which theory (Divine Right,
Social Contract, Force, or Evolutionary) would most logically lead to the creation of your
state and WHY.
Remember, you do not need to limit yourself to one of these, sometimes
two can work together.
2) What type of government will you create?
This should be along the lines, or logically paired with, whatever
theory/theories you used in part 1.
Remember to discuss the role of government in your new society.
3) What type of economy will you have?
This should be directly related to the type of government you have
created.
Here you need to discuss the role of said government when it comes to
resources and who should get what.
4) Where do the majority of your citizens/your society fall on the political spectrum and
why? Based off of 2 & # 3, what ideology do your people follow (Radical, Liberal, Moderate,
Conservative, Reactionary)? Is there a balance of all ideologies?
5) Based on the type of government you create, how will you handle the infected?
This is important because each type of government would handle this
issue differently. Because of this, there should be a logical connection between your
solution and your states dominant political ideology.
Think about the Infected as those who do not fit in with the majority
(granted, they are bloodsuckers who will rise in population if given the opportunity to do
so).
6) Lastly, a visual representation of how your society will work (#s 1-5) with a short
presentation with all of your group members participating.
The Solo Mission: All by your lonesome, you are to write a 5 paragraph essay explaining the following:
1) Introduction
2) The theory/theories used to establish your state, and what type of government you
created.
3) What type of economy you will have and how you will make/distribute resources.
4) Where your people will fall on the political spectrum, and how your government chose to
handle the infected.
5) Conclusion
* REMEMBER!!!! You need to DEFINE all terms in your essay and APPLY those terms correctly!
You have to show that you know what you are talking about!
