Biography:
Born on December 16th, 1770 in Bonn, Germany
In between birth of two young brothers (1774 &
1776), Beethoven started learning music from his
father who was an average court singer known
more for his alcoholism than his music
Beethovens father taught Beethoven music very
brutally and cruelly and this affected him for the
rest of his life; he would hit him for making
mistakes and lock him in the cellar depriving him
of sleep for extra practice
Along with studying violin and the clavier with his
father, Beethoven went to other places to take
lessons for other organists
Dropping out of school at the the age of 10, he
started working for his family at the age of 14
when his father could not anymore. He left to
Vienna and started learning from famous
musicians such as Haydn and Mozart.
From there on, he began composing and playing
piano and rose to fame

Beethoven was
one of the great
musicians and
composers during
the transition from
the Classical to the
Romantic periods
of music.

He was known for


having a great ability
of introducing new
methods of presenting
and developing
musical themes and
his improvisation. His
musical innovations
continued throughout
his career.

Beethoven set
new standards
for conveying
emotion and
passion through
his music.

Accomplishments:
He was one of the
best composers in
his time despite
his loss of
hearing. He felt
music which only
emphasises his
knowledge and
passion for it.

Interesting Facts:

Early in the 1800s, Beethovens sense of


hearing started to decline and gradually
put an end to his performing career

Beethoven had a short temper and


would end performances if he became
aware of anyone in the audience talking;
he had an extremely odd personality as
a result of his deafness and terrible
childhood

Beethoven's deafness was the result of


lead poisoning

Beethoven loved cooking, so much so


that he named one of his pieces "Christ!
On the Mount of Olives

A woman named Antonia Brentano was


probably the intended recipient of
Beethovens famous letter to the
Immortal Beloved. She was rumored to
be his love.

Beethoven used to be sick a lot during


his life with many diseases resulting into
his early death with a severe case of
pneumonia
