Lesson Plan #1 (Intro and Background for EAP) Monday

State Standard:
Teaching Model: Direct Instruction
Objective: Students will become familiar with Edgar Allan Poe and his
works
Materials and Resources:
Pen/Pencil
Edgar Allen Poe Powerpoint (Background info)
2 Videos
Instructional Procedures:
Introduction: Students will spend writing time on the following
journal entry: Tell me a scary story. (10 minutes)
Discussion: 3-5 minutes
Students will be given background information on EAP through a
powerpoint.
Students will take Cornell Notes on EAP (20 minutes)
Students will watch 2 videos

Objective: Students will learn the background of The Raven and begin
close reading to better understand poetry.

Grammar Prompt (sentence Corrections)
Pen/Pencil
Biography Channel Video
Powerpoint on the Background of the Raven
The Raven Summary Guide
Copies of the Raven to read outloud
Instructional Procedures:
Introduction: Students will write in their journal the following
journal entry: Grammar correction (8 minutes)
Discussion and review of grammar (5 minutes)
Students will watch the short biography channel video to get into
The Raven mindset.

Instructional Procedures:
Introduction: Students will write on the following prompt: (10
minutes)
Discussion on prompt and journal entries (2-5 minutes)
SSR (sustained silent reading) (20 minutes)
Students will continue on their summary page for The Raven
(remainder of class)
Accomodations and Modifications: Students will be given extra time to
complete summary page if needed.
Extension and Contingency Plans: Students will have an exit ticket
describing what they read for SSR.
Assessment and Evaluation of Learning: Examining their understanding
in personal conversations during Summary Page work time.

Introduction: Students will write creatively for 10 minutes (free

The Raven/Edgar Allan Poe quiz/test. (15-20 minutes)
Go over quiz/test (10 minutes)
Introduction of Cask of Amontillado by watching the following
