Background: Limited Spanish


Course Objective: To acquire a novice-mid sublevel.
Lesson Objective:

SWBAT use salutations, good byes, and courtesy expressions. ( Functional and culture)
SWBAT identify her/himself. (vocabulary, Grammar)
SWBAT use the nouns and articles.( Grammar)

Overview of Procedure:

Introduction
Present new material
Activity to practice the use of salutations, goodbyes, and courtesy expressions.
Activity to practice identification.
Observation , ask, and answer questions
Wrap-up

Materials:

Computer and projector


PowerPoint presentation about the topics
4 Worksheets ( Construye la historia , Identifcar , Correcto o incorrecto, and
Encuesta.)
Marker and eraser
Book (Pages 1-26)
You Tube videos ( The Toyota Comercial and Buzzlightyear Spanish mode)

Detail Procedure:

Warm up
10:00-05:
1. Welcome the students.
2. Take attendance
3. Ask them if they read chapter 1 Pages 1-26 and if they have any questions.

Presenting of new material


10:05-25:
1. Using the PowerPoint inform the student the objective of the class
2. Ask the students: Why do you want to learn Spanish?
3. Using the PowerPoint presentations inform them that Spanish is also called Castilian
(Castellano or Espaol ). Explain that Spanish is the most spoken language in the United
States and the second in the world.
4. Show the students the Toyota commercial. (This is a bilingual commercial. It compares a
car with a bilingual person )
5. Using the same PowerPoint show the student the photos and ask: What do you think is
happening in these photos?
6. Explain the way Hispanics greet each other ( handshake or one kiss or two kisses on the
cheek)
7. Ask: How do you greet your friends, my family, and unfamiliar people?
8. Present the buzz light video and explain the students that the class will be taught in
Spanish.
9. Present the students a few greetings, farewells, and courtesy expressions.
10. Describe the meaning and teach the students the pronunciation of the terms. Ask the
students to pronounce the terms.
11. Greet some of the students, make introductions, and ask for responses.
For example: Odette: Hola. Me llamo Odette
Student: Hola. Me llamo student. Mucho gusto.
Odette: El gusto es mo. De dnde eres?
Student: Soy de los Estados Unidos, de Florida.

12. Present the students the nouns and articles.

Practice
10:20- 35

Activity 1
1. Divide the class in groups of two.
2. Provide worksheet (Construye la historia)
3. Scenario: Two students are getting acquainted on their day of college. The purpose of this
activity is that the students continue the conversation by choosing the correct sentence.
Example:

Activity 2
1. Provide worksheets to each student
2. Identificar. Write the definite article and noun.

10:20-35 Activity 1 and 2 -Observation


Observe the students and provide help or suggestions if needed (vocabulary or pronunciation)
Application
10:35-45- Check for the answers by asking each person or group and answer any questions.

Remind the class about next day homework assignment (Correcto o incorrecto )

Anticipating problems and solutions:

Extra activity. Nouns and articles (Encuesta) Walk around the room and ask classmates to
help you classify these nouns.
Know other ways to explain the topics in different forms just in case the computer is not
working. ( Have the book available pages 1-26)
Have extra worksheets.
