AMERICAN HISTORY

COURSE OVERVIEW

Email Address: pkereszt@asu.edu
Room: 123
Phone: (480) 123-4567

Course Introduction:
This course is a U.S. History course that is mandatory. We will begin with American colonization
and continue through history up to present day. By studying American history, we will come to
value how it all began and respect those who helped make it happen. Courage, wisdom, and
diligence is everywhere in our history. Each lesson will demonstrate those characteristics along
with mistakes that caused our country hardship.
This course allows students to use their knowledge of American history and use it to explore
other nations and their behaviors while analyzing the cycle of our own history. Exploration,
imperialism, and economics are still occurring today. Being able to appreciate and apply history
to other situations will help students in understanding them.
Class Rules/Expectations:

Come to class prepared
BE RESPECTFUL!
All other rules are consistent with the Schools Code of Conduct.
*I have the right to amend classroom rules at any time.

Assignments will include tests, projects, quizzes, writing assignments, homework, and class
work. Students and parents will be able to access grades in the Parent/Student Portal. Students
are responsible for checking their grades and making sure that all work is turned in. *Please
allow 2 weeks for large assignments to be graded.
Technology:
School policy states that students must turn off their cell phones during school hours. However,
the use of technology is encouraged in my classroom. Therefore, cell phones will be allowed
under my supervision for educational purposes ONLY.
Late Work:
Assignments are considered late if they are turned in after the due date. Students may turn in an
assignment one week after the original due-date for half-credit. After that, the assignment will
not be accepted. *This procedure applies unless otherwise stated.
Absences:
Excused absences: Students with an excused absence will be given one day (more if they miss
more than one day, i.e. if they miss two days they will have two days to complete the
assignment) to complete the assignment(s) for full credit. Only students with excused absences
will be able to make up tests and quizzes for full credit.
Unexcused absences: An unexcused absence automatically makes an assignment late. **See late
work. Upon my discretion, larger assignments can be made up, but full credit will not be given.
(An unexcused absence is one that is not called in.)
Contact Information: Feel free to email me if you or your parents have any questions
comments, or concerns. Email is the best way to reach me! However, other arrangements (phone
or in person) can be made if scheduled in advanced!
I look forward to a year filled with fun and learning!
