Date: 10/19/2015

Instructional Objectives (Skill, Condition, Criteria): Students

will be able to demonstrate the forearm pass in volleyball and
understand when to use it in a game. Other names for forearm
pass (Dig, pass, Bump). Students will search YouTube for
volleyball games. This will also assess prior knowledge, which
helps with my anticipatory set.

NYS Learning Standard

Cognitive (Know) Students will know when to use the forearm

pass in a game. Students will know what part of the arm to pass
with. This is be assessed in the game. Students will know that the
forearm pass is used to pass or return a low shot. I will see
succession during the activities.

Psychomotor (Does) Students will be performing the forearm

pass to themselves or against a wall. This will be at the beginning
of the lesson. I will know they are succeeding because they will
be contacting the ball with their forearm and they will not be
swinging their arms.
Affective (Values) Students will enthusiastically compete in this
lesson. Students will remain focused throughout the whole lesson.
Students will help one another when needed. This will be one
example of succeeding in this domain.
Language Function Students will analyze each other and
correct any necessary mistakes. Students will describe the steps in

completing the forearm pass.

_____________________________________________________
Academic language: Students will prepare and execute the
forearm pass and be able to demonstrate to the group if called
upon. Start in the Ready Position. Contact the ball on the
FOREARMS.
Equipment:
- Volleyballs
- Nets
- Team Shake app
- PowerPoint/YouTube clip
- Laptop connected to TV
Safety Considerations:
- All students must be wearing sneakers.
- Any loose cables safely put away.
- The ball should be handed or rolled to coach
- Students will no hang on the poles or nets

Modifications / Adaptations:
The student can use the forearm pass and catch strategy instead of
a continuous forearm pass.
Instead of using the net, the student can practice the forearm pass
against the wall until they are more confident.

Teaching Approaches:

___ Peer Teaching ___ Cooperative Learning
___ Child Designed Instruction
Learning Activity/Sample Task:
1. Introduction/Set Induction: I will start the lesson by giving
a quick history on volleyball. I will use my PowerPoint to
show my class some of the skills in volleyball. I have
created a few extra slides on the forearm pass (todays
lesson). Using my laptop that I have connected to our TV,
I will use YouTube to show a few videos on the forearm
pass. This will help visual learners. This is my anticipatory
hook. Showing clips will grab their attention on how fun
volleyball can be.
2. Fitness Concepts: (Put a check next to all that apply)

Closure: (should
reflect your lesson
objectives)

XXXX

Group discussion. Check for understanding of the forearm

pass. Have someone demonstrate the forearm pass. What is the
purpose of the forearm pass? To pass the ball and play balls
that are the below waist. Another name for the forearm pass:
dig, bump, and pass.

Floor Plan: See class organization.

Reflection: What went well? What did not go well? What will you change next time?
I was happy with my lesson and how it ran smoothly. I felt the demonstrations helped the class and me. I liked how the drills transitioned and I felt
the students were having fun. I felt everything did go well. If I had to change anything I would have broken down the forearm pass from the feet
upwards. I think the YouTube clips really helped my visual learners. It also shows they can find anything on YouTube.

Resources: YouTube. Team Shake from the Apple store.

Research: Why did you do what you did based on proven research strategies and principles? CITE THE RESEARCH
STRATEGIES AND WHO WAS THE RESEACHER.

Visual cues are good for visual learners. The YouTube clips will be a great help to show good technique and
some history of volleyball.
