I have almost always been surrounded by people who have encouraged me to read.
My parents love reading and have done their level best to instill that same love in
me, and they succeeded (though it took longer than they expected). I never really
put forth the effort to learn how to read before school started and entered first
grade totally illiterate. The Individualized Education Program (IEP) volunteers were
vital in catching me up with my peers. I eventually came to excel in reading
comprehension but still struggled with writing. It wasnt until I entered my junior
year in high school that I met the man who would change that. Mr. Campolmi, my
AP English III teacher, and Ms. Eaton, my AP English IV teacher, fundamentally
changed my perspective on the world of literature and writing.

One of the hardest things in this project is compiling dates and other necessary
information for stories that have been passed around for decades. For example, my
parents had a blue Chevy Blazer which played a massive role early on in their
marriage. They would go everywhere in it, but they didnt exactly keep track of
dates for their sons college projects. All they remember is that it was bought early
on in the 90s and torched by hoodlums before 1996. Not very specific.

Well, it seems that everything Ive done for engineering has been deemed lacking.
Spend five hours on the best lab report of your life, misplace an equation, a few
more minor formatting errors, and, when you get the grade back, cry yourself to
sleep. Totally reasonable. There was also the time where I turned in a project as a
PDF instead of a Word document and was given a zero. Now that I know the reasons
behind that choice it seems less insane, but still overly harsh.

Ive done most of my research over the internet as it represents the sum total of
human knowledge. It is also stupidly easy to sift through. The internet has
everything, provided you know where to look. It can be difficult to find information
that is truly reliable due to the open source nature of the internet. As such, it can
occasionally be useful to use the internet to find other sources.

Peer review has always been difficult. I typically return an essay covered in nitpicks
and generalizations, but I get a paper covered with insightful points. I never feel
comfortable that Ive put enough to be helpful. I have, fortunately, received
generally helpful and actionable advice in the past and find that peer review is
almost always helpful for me.

The fact that people, of any ethnicity or nationality, were brutally and senselessly
attacked ought to provoke a strong response from all civilized nations. Should we
invade with a massive army? No. Should we offer the support needed to our Arab

allies? Absolutely. They do not have the same kind of air power, armor, or training
that the US has. We can provide specialist support. We dont have to give them a
thing (that seems to have backfired more than once), but we can fight alongside
them.

The hardest choice Ive made here would have to be my decision to remain in the
engineering program. I have performed very poorly in mathematics in the past, and
that trend has continued. 1201 has been the least forgiving class I have ever see to
top it off. Why did I enter this program in the first place? Honestly, I have no idea. I
guess I chose engineering because of the money and my interest in science. It
seems that was a major mistake, but Im still sticking with it. For some reason.
