Mr.

Jose Figueroa's Letter of Support to stay legally in Canada*

By the Rev. Miguel A. Hernndez

Hon. John McCallum,

Minister of Immigration,
Refugees and Citizenship
I am respectfully writing to you today, Friday December 4th, 2015 to request that
the case of Mr. Jose Figueroa be heard, and for him to be allowed to continue
with the proceedings in the court.
I am currently a priest at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in the West Orange, NJ,
USA.
I am also a person who left El Salvador in 1977 just before the civil war broke
out in the country. In fact since my youth, I was opposed to the brutal treatment
of the people of El Salvador by a corrupt government.
I can easily understand why Mr. Jose Figueroa supported the Frente Farabundo
Mart para la Liberacin Nacional (FMLN) in El Salvador. As stated above, it was
a civil war: people were fighting against a military dictatorship.
After the Peace Agreement signed in Mexico in 1992, the FMLN has been a
political party in El Salvador. In the last six (6) years, the FMLN has been
governing El Salvador. Thus, the FMLN is not a terrorist organization. This
should be more than enough information to support the petition made by Mr.
Jose Figueroa to be allowed to stay with his family in Canada.
Shall you need further information about the political life of El Salvador, in
particular the 2009 elections, I would encourage you to read an essay that I
wrote in 2007 (http://www.scribd.com//Opinion-on-2009-elections-in-El-Sal)
I am praying and trusting in your best judgment to allow Mr. Jose Figueroa to
stay legally in Canada with his family.

Please note that I will be posting this letter in the social media.
In Christ's service,
The Rev. Miguel A. Hernndez
