To Whom It May Concern:
Brittany Huonker was my student during her 10 week psychiatric/mental health nursing clinical rotation last semester. As a clinical instructor/lecturer with fifty years experience in various psych nursing areas, I have a unique opportunity to become acquainted with my students as individuals. Since they're learning to use their own personalities as a therapeutic tool, I try to help them get to know themselves more in depth and as members of a team on our 3-unit inpatient facility. During our psych rotation, they also experience working with older adults, pediatric therapy services, and intensive adult outpatient group therapy. My goal for them is to practice interpersonal relationship skills that can be generalized and applied to any nursing endeavor they choose. Brittany Huonker is an outstanding member of a highly competitive class of RNs-to-Be at The University of Arizona College of Nursing (the 20th best in the nation!). Her GPA is very respectable, and her list of Honors reflect her excellence as a student nurse. Review Brittany's volunteer activities for the last three years - a very interesting variety including serving youngsters, the elderly, and those in-between, an all social-economic levels. Many employers don't appreciate the extra-added value of a sorority experience such as Brittany's: leadership opportunities, a tradition of philanthrophy, and mature, poised social skills. I benefited from a similar background during my undergrad years long ago for the same reasons. Now the usual (but true) description of the strengths and attributes that Brittany will bring to your organization: 1) a broad and in depth nursing knowledge base; 2) highly developed technical/technology abilities; 3) excellent verbal/written communication skills and finally; 4) an appreciation of the value of the continued application of evidenced-based nursing practice. Please interview Brittany - you will be happy you did! She is one of those to whom the old adage applies: "Still waters run deep". Brittany's calm, grounded strengths will soon shine through, and a certain sweetness will appear. Her manner is particularly appealing to children which shouldn't surprise us. She was given one of the coveted pediatric precepetorships at Diamond Banner UMC in her senior year. So with 188 hours of hands-on pediatric RN care under her belt, she is more than capable of "hitting the ground running" in that or any other settings. Brittany represents the best of nursing's present and future. Seriously consider making her a member of you healthcare team as soon as possible. Sincerely,
