A. Professional Goals.
Goal#1: I aim to use this practicum to improve my assessment
practices by providing students with frequent, descriptive formative
feedback, and meaningful, authentic summative assessment.
Rationale: With the experience and guidance of my mentor teacher I
will be able to improve my assessment skills, to ensure that I am
providing beneficial, authentic feedback and the best assessment
possible to my students, using various means and strategies. This way,
I can develop strong assessment practices with the support and input
of an experienced mentor. (KSA 5, KSA 7, KSA9)
Goal#2:Mysecondgoalformyfinalpracticumistobetterdevelopmyclassroom
managementskills.
Rationale: DuringmysecondpracticumIworkedonmyclassroomleadershipskills;I
believethisissomethingIhavegreatlyimprovedon,andwouldliketofocusmy
attentionmoreonmyclassroommanagementskillsnow.Iwillworktomaintainan
activeleadershiproleintheclass,whilekeepingbettermanagementoftheroomasa
whole.Iwillcreateanatmospherethatisappropriateforlearningforallstudentsthrough
classroommanagementstrategies.(KSA6)

B. Strategies (How I will go about achieving my goals).


Strategies for addressing Goal #1:

I will acquire and develop, strong assessment pieces that will meet the
needs of my students to ensure they are meeting the required Program
of Studies outcomes.
I will review potential assessment pieces and their results with my
teacher mentor to see areas of improvement or any components that
need to be changed or altered.
With my students I will ensure they have the necessary skills and
knowledge to achieve their outcomes of learning through descriptive
and formative feedback to ensure they know what is required of them
as well as how they can accomplish this successfully. Throughout their
lessons with assessment for, of and as learning I will gauge and track
students progress as well as their needs and areas required for
attention or modification. I will work at improving my assessment for
learning skills by implementing regular checks and feedback
throughout my lesson to ensure that students are best able to see their
own learning as it is taking place.
Strategies for addressing Goal #2:
Iwillensuretocirculatearoundthespacetobeavailabletoallstudentsduringvarious
activitiesorinstruction.Duringthis,Iwillmaintainfrequentscansandchecksofthe
groupasawhole.Steppingawayattimestosurveythegroupandmakeadjustmentsor
observationsasneeded.Iwillusedifferentlevelsandvoiceinflectionswhen
communicatingwithindividuals,smallgroupsorthewholegrouptoensureaclearand
appropriatelineofcommunicationatalltheselevels.Iwillhaveclearexpectations
establishedfortheclassesthatareappropriateandadaptedtotheirspecificneeds,with
relatedconsequencesshouldtheseexpectationsnotbemet.Theenvironmentofmy
classroomshouldbewelcomingandasafespaceforallstudentstolearnandtakerisks.
Havingtheseexpectationssetupwillallowthisenvironmenttoflourish.Iwillreview
classesthatwentparticulargoodorbadtoseeindicatorsofeachandseewhatchanges
needtobemadeorissuesaddressedorwhatworkedwell.
C. Indicators of Progress (How I will know Im achieving my
goals).
Indicators of Progress for Goal #1:
TheindicatorsIwilluseformonitoringprogressinclude,trackingtheassessments(both
formativeandsummative)thatIimplementtoensurethattheyarebeneficialandserving
theirintendedpurpose.
IwillreviewandevaluatetheassessmentsIhaveused,inconsultationtomyteacher
mentor,toseeifthereareareasinneedofimprovement,ormissingcomponentsthatare
neededforfutureassessmentsofthoseoutcomes.
Indicators of Progress for Goal #2:

Classeswillbeabletofunctionsmoothlyandefficientlywithfewerdisruptions.Students
willbeabletobesuccessfulwithinlessonsinaccomplishnecessaryoutcomes.Students
willbegintoselfmonitorbehaviourfromexpectations.Iwillbeabletomaintainagood
pulseoftheclassroomenvironmentatalltimesduringlessons,instructionand
activities.
D. Timeline for Completion.
Goal1willbetrackedandmonitoredthroughoutmypracticum.Iexpecttoseeregular
improvementsandmodificationsandwillreviewthesepracticesonamonthlybasisto
ensurethattheseneedsarebeingmetandaddressed.BytheendofmypracticumIshould
havedeveloparepertoireofassessmentstrategies,toolsandresourcesthatIwillbeable
totakewithmeinmyfutureteachingexperiences.
Goal2willtakeplacethroughoutthepracticumandbeyondasIbuildonmyskillsset
andencounternewexperiences.
